m-Coumaric acid is a polyphenol metabolite derived from caffeic acid, produced by gut microflora, and its concentration in human biofluids depends on diet. It is a BBB-penetrant metabolite of chlorogenic acid. In vitro, m-Coumaric acid stimulates cerebral nerves and can evoke neurite outgrowth in hippocampal neuronal cells, promoting neuronal differentiation.
